Get to know Bob Jaszczak

Bob Jaszczak brings a wealth of experience to Red Wing Public Schools.

The district’s new superintendent taught math for 16 years between the Lancaster and Kittson Central school districts. During portions of that time he also served as a coach, technology coordinator, and activities director.

While teaching, he also was a livestock farmer, and from 1998-2001 he left education for a time as he and his wife, Idha, owned and operated a restaurant. During this period he also worked for an HVAC company and did appliance repair.

He resumed math teaching in 2001 and in 2008 moved into administration when he was selected as the superintendent at South Koochiching/Rainy River where he served for three years. He came to Red Wing after 13 years as the superintendent at Kittson Central.

Jaszczak (pronounced Josh-ek) said the three years he spent away from education were invaluable: What he learned served his students well and ultimately made him a better superintendent.

“Red Wing presents an exciting opportunity for Idha and me,” he said. “Every school district presents a unique set of strengths and challenges. It is my job to accentuate the positive while recognizing there is work to be done as we strive as a community to provide the best possible education for the students of Red Wing.”

The Red Wing School Board voted unanimously April 15 to offer him the superintendency here. He immediately accepted. He officially assumed the role July 1.

“We are excited and pleased to have Mr. Jaszczak in our district,” Chair Jim Bryant said. “He is knowledgeable in school finance and management. He listens. He works hard. He has the respect of his peers across Minnesota. Most of all, he’s always about the kids. And that’s what our School Board and our schools are about – the students.”
