Curriculum & Assessment
Creative Curriculum for Preschool
The Creative Curriculum for Preschool is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that features exploration and discovery as a way of learning, enabling children to develop confidence, creativity and lifelong critical-thinking skills. It is designed to help educators at all levels of experience plan and implement a developmentally appropriate, content-rich program for children with diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
The 38 research-based objectives define the path teachers take with children in their classroom .They inform every aspect of teaching, include predictors of school success and are aligned with state early learning standards.
Teaching Strategies GOLD
Teaching Strategies GOLD is an authentic, ongoing observational system for assessing children from birth through kindergarten. It helps teachers to observe children in the context of everyday experiences, which is an effective way to learn what they know and can do.
Teaching Strategies GOLD is based on the same 38 objectives for development and learning that are the foundation of Creative Curriculum. These objectives are at the heart of the system, allowing teachers to gather their information and make decisions within everyday classroom activities on a continuous basis.
Early Childhood Family Education or ECFE is designed for all families with children ages birth to kindergarten enrollment. Classes offer a variety of learning opportunities for parents and their children.
ECFE recognizes that families are children’s first and most significant teachers, and that families provide children’s first important learning environment. It also helps children grow and develop, enriches family life and provides information and support for your important role as a parent.
Any child birth to pre-kindergarten and their parents or guardians are eligible to participate.
Classes are offered at low cost to families and fees can be waived upon request.

The early childhood years from birth to the start of kindergarten are an important time of rapid learning and growth. Early childhood screening is required for entrance in Minnesota’s public schools and must take place between age 3 and kindergarten, or within the first 30 days of kindergarten.
Screening is a quick, no-cost check of a child’s vision and hearing, height and weight, immunization review, review of health care coverage, risk factors that may impact learning, large and small muscle, thinking, language and speaking skills as well as parent report of social-emotional development and a parent summary meeting. Screening is offered monthly throughout the school year. Early childhood screening provides the best opportunity for any health or developmental concerns to be found early.
If a parent is a conscientious objector or does not want the screening for their child, they may give the district a signed statement and the child does not need to complete the screening (Minnesota Statutes, Section 121A.17, Subdivision 3(e).
