Has Your Preschooler Completed Early Childhood Screening?
Minnesota law requires that each child must participate in a screening program before entering kindergarten in a Minnesota public school. Children participate in a screening between the ages of 3 years and 5 years old. The purpose of screening is to assist parents and communities in improving the health of Minnesota children and to assist in planning educational and health programs of Minnesota children. If your child is between the ages of 3 and 5 and has not been screened, call 651-385-8000 to schedule an appointment for your child. Screenings are completed at Colvill Family Center on Thursdays in September through May. Click on Early Childhood Screening link on left side of this page for more information.

Colvill Earns Four Star Parent Aware Rating
Three programs at Colvill have earned Minnesota Parent Aware’s highest rating. Two school district programs: Colvill Kids Preschool and Red Wing Public Schools’ school readiness program along with Three Rivers Community Action Program’s HeadStart center located at Colvill all received the four star rating. Parent Aware awards ratings of one to four stars to qualifying, participating programs based on a number of factors. Factors considered in determining ratings are: physical health and well-being, teaching and relationships, assessment of child progress, teacher training and education. To earn a four star rating, programs have to demonstrate that they excel in the use of best practices in preparing children for kindergarten.
